The semiconductor rally led by Intel, AMD and Broadcom is more than another rotation into chip stocks. The market increasingly appears to be looking beyond the GPU itself and toward the entire AI infrastructure stack: compute, networking, storage, memory and cybersecurity.
That shift matters. NVIDIA built an extraordinary moat around accelerated computing, but the next stage of the AI buildout is becoming much broader. AMD is pushing its Helios rack architecture and networking capabilities, while NVIDIA is moving deeper into AI storage and infrastructure. The battle is gradually becoming less about who makes the fastest chip and more about who controls the architecture of the AI data center.
At the same time, Cloudflare is quietly moving into an equally interesting position. Its combination of edge infrastructure, cybersecurity and AI capabilities puts it directly in the path of rising demand for AI-powered applications. The old description of Cloudflare as simply a CDN is becoming increasingly inadequate.
Then there is the other side of the equation: falling AI inference costs. The economics demonstrated by newer models such as DeepSeek raise a fascinating question for investors. Cheaper inference could pressure some AI infrastructure economics, but it could also make AI dramatically more accessible and increase total demand. Lower cost doesn’t necessarily mean lower spending—it can mean much more usage.
And quantum computing remains the wild card. IonQ, D-Wave and Rigetti continue to attract enormous investor attention, but the story is gradually shifting from qubit counts and futuristic promises toward commercial applications, customers and actual revenue.
Put it all together and the bigger investment story is becoming clear: the AI boom is moving from a race for models and GPUs into a much larger battle over the infrastructure, economics and applications that will support the next trillion dollars of AI spending.
The most important question for investors may no longer be “Who builds the best AI model?”
It may be: “Who owns the infrastructure underneath everything?”
