IBM and Hugging Face Release Largest Open-Source Geospatial AI Model Built with NASA’s Satellite Data

IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Hugging Face have jointly unveiled a groundbreaking initiative by making IBM’s watsonx.ai geospatial foundation model, created from NASA’s satellite data, openly available on Hugging Face. This milestone marks the first-ever open-source AI foundation model developed in collaboration with NASA. The geospatial model addresses the challenge of accessing real-time data in climate science, enabling researchers to analyze vast datasets for climate and Earth science innovations. The model, trained on Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 satellite data (HLS), showcased a 15 percent improvement over current techniques using only half the labeled data.
